ITINERARY: BOSCO QUARTO: "THE GREEN HEART OF GARGANO" (MONTE SANT'ANGELO)

The itinerary starts in the area “Piana dell’Incudine” (527 m.) and then goes through Masseria Santa Maria (658 m.), Coppa dell’Elci (752 m.), Cima Cavolecchia (785 m .), until Coppa del Giglio (752 m.), seat of an ancient forestry barracks, now become a rest stop. From here the itinerary goes on by drawing a ring, until the starting point.

You will walk always deep in the wood, that is marked by high trees and in particular by Turkey oaks, which can reach 30/35 meters of height.

In the colorful and scented undergrowth, there is the Holly, shrub that can reach an height up to 3 meters and that in some periods, like blooming time (April and May) and  maturation of fruits, (between December and February), gives special chromatic effects.

Gorgeous scenarios can be seen during the fall season, when the wood becomes all shaded with colors from yellow to ochre. In summer it is very good for people searching for cooler temperatures.

JOURNEY TIME: 5 hours and 30 minutes (Planned stop have been foreseen in order to favor the full body efficiency)

DIFFICULTY: T = Touristic (it consists of itineraries on small routes, mule tracks and easy, visible paths,  that  do not present uncertainties, difficulties or orientation problems. Those kind of itineraries are also suitable for hikers on their first experience).
